PUBG is 3rd selling game in steam history

This statement was declared by Gabe Newell himself during the Artifact presentation at the Valve headquaters. He has touched the PUBG title very briefly during his speech, but we have collected the most interesting momemnts for you.

Talking about the investment Valve has made in hardware and technology, Newell said that there was a "big hole" left in the market after the release of DOTA 2 that PUBG stepped in to fill.

You can have a relatively new game like PUBG, and [...] they can capitalise on all the other multiplayer games, and all of the technology, [and] the fact that China is now a huge market for anybody who does PC game development
So PUBG can come out of pretty much nowhere and become the third largest selling game on Steam’s history. Their gross revenue over all-time is already number three in fairly short order.

The undoubtable game success has been a real phenomenon throughout 2017 and has been rapidly gathering player database from all around the globe. But however recent cheater activities and uneffective measures taken by the devs have decreseased the popularity of the game. Hopefully the future update with the new skins will help to improve the situation.
