Short summary of the PUBG Devcom
PUBG to receive night time and fog in the future updates
A reddit user summed some of the PUBG developers devcom statements
- Building new maps is an enormous effort, usually takes 6-9 months building one from scratch, they try to do it faster than that. There will be map-specific vehicles.
- Matchmaking is very simple at the moment, the Platform team currently has no time extending it since they are focused on server stability
- Tessellation for ground textures coming soon, looked pretty nice.
- The vaulting system is very complex and adaptable to the geometry, he showed some nice animation examples.
- No custom server for everybody because of the operating costs, but they will have a system for that some time in the future
- They develop the game "as-a-service" with a multi-year lifespan
- They were prototyping a night-mode and talked about anti-gamma boosting measures in relation to that.
- Fog weather effects will probably be coming
- The pan being indestructible was an accident, but they left in the game anyway
- They revamped the shadow system in terms of performance, making shadows basically free, enabling long-distance shadows on low-end machines.
- They showed some melee takedown animations, I'm not sure if they will go into the game though.
- They have about 100 people working on the game in .KR ,15 in the USA.
With the soom Xbox release developers have plenty of work to do.
