KRAFTON Filed Over 100 Lawsuits Against PUBG Cheat Developers in Three Months

The developers of PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS have published a new blog on the game’s official website, reporting significant progress in their fight against cheaters, including filing more than 100 lawsuits against cheat developers over the past three months.

Hello players,

We’ve been consistently advancing our cheat detection technology and ban enforcement systems to ensure that every player can compete in a fair gameplay environment. In June, we shared the PUBG Anti-Cheat Roadmap, outlining our step-by-step initiatives to strengthen anti-cheat measures both in-game and externally for long-term sustainability. Among these, the expansion and enhancement of detection models, improvements to the reporting system, and reduction of false bans are our key priorities.

In this Dev Letter, we’d like to share updates on the progress of these core initiatives, their current status, and additional areas of ongoing work.

Expansion and Enhancement of Detection Models

As many of you are aware, cheat programs continue to evolve, becoming increasingly sophisticated and stealthy in their attempts to evade PUBG’s anti-cheat systems. To counter this, we operate an AI-based detection framework that identifies and enforces bans on abnormal behavior, going beyond simple software detection.

Our AI detection models are continuously learning and improving to keep pace with the evolution of cheats. As a result, since the publication of our roadmap in June, the detection volume has increased by roughly 2.5 times, while detection time has been reduced by over 90%, allowing for faster and more accurate enforcement.

These advancements aren’t merely statistical—we believe they’ll help us quickly mitigate the impact of cheaters and ensure that legitimate players can enjoy PUBG in a more stable and fair environment.

In addition, with the transition to current-generation consoles, the anti-cheat system on consoles will also be further enhanced. We’ve confirmed the use of unauthorized devices such as key mapping tools, keyboard/mouse converters, and recoil-control macros on console platforms. To address these devices and other external hardware-based tools, we’ve been conducting ongoing testing and R&D. We’ve obtained and analyzed actual unauthorized devices to refine our countermeasures across various environments, especially in line with the console service transition.

Through these efforts, we aim to deliver a fair and seamless gaming experience across all console platforms.

Improving the Reporting System

In an environment where cheat programs constantly evolve in type and behavior, the PUBG Anti-Cheat Team continues to refine its response methods through consistent monitoring and analysis to stay agile and effective.

We’ve also identified cases where cheaters attempt to disguise themselves as skilled, legitimate players to avoid detection. To address this, we analyze player report data to track new deceptive behavior patterns and apply these insights flexibly in our video review process. This helps us identify suspicious activity with greater precision. Through these efforts, we expect to steadily improve the reliability of investigations based on player reports.

Furthermore, in response to ongoing player input about the report feedback process, we have expanded our dedicated review team and conducted five rounds of process improvements. Since the release of the Anti-Cheat Roadmap in late June, our monitoring staff has increased by approximately 2.8 times, and the average review processing time has been reduced by about 75%.

We’re not content with these numerical improvements alone. Our goal is to continue improving both speed and efficiency so that players can feel a tangible difference in the quality and responsiveness of our report feedback process.

System Enhancements to Reduce False Bans

While we continue to strengthen our anti-cheat measures, we’re also committed to minimizing false bans — cases where legitimate players are unfairly penalized. As promised in this year’s Anti-Cheat Roadmap, we’re currently working on establishing new standards and refining procedures throughout the ban review process.

As part of this effort, we are building a system that analyzes a wide range of factors, including gameplay patterns, to improve the accuracy in determining whether a player has used cheats. By more precisely distinguishing normal play behavior and integrating this data into the review process, we aim to reduce the likelihood of innocent players being affected.

Our recent analysis of false ban reports revealed that approximately 70% of submitted appeals were actually confirmed cases of cheat program use. While some cheaters continue to submit unfounded ban appeals repeatedly, we are systematically verifying all enforcement data and responding to such cases accordingly. These findings suggest that PUBG’s ban system is functioning as intended.

That said, we acknowledge that despite these improvements, some players may still experience false bans. The anti-cheat system must account for a wide variety of gameplay environments and variables, so even with new technology, it’s difficult to address every issue at once. We take this reality seriously and will continue working to further minimize the possibility of false bans.

The improvements shared today are not one-time measures, but part of a long-term effort to continually refine our detection models and review processes. We consider it one of our most important missions to deliver changes that players can genuinely feel in their gameplay experience.

Moving forward, PUBG will continue to carefully review community feedback and pursue both technical and operational improvements to provide a more stable and enjoyable gameplay environment.

Strengthening External Anti-Cheat Measures

Alongside strengthening our internal systems, we are also continuing to expand our legal actions against cheats. As mentioned in our previous Dev Letter, we are currently working closely with investigative and law enforcement agencies across multiple countries to take legal action against cheat developers and distributors.

Recently, these efforts have expanded to include not only developers and sellers but also cheaters themselves. From August through October, over 100 legal actions were taken, and we will continue to strengthen such measures going forward.

These actions move beyond traditional technical measures such as hardware bans or IP bans, adopting a more fundamental approach that holds cheat developers, sellers, and users directly accountable under the law. By doing so, we’re going beyond simply blocking cheat programs to ensure that those responsible for cheating face real consequences, not just in-game penalties.

We believe these efforts will serve as an important step toward deterring potential cheat use and building a fairer gameplay environment. The PUBG Anti-Cheat Team will continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies worldwide, pursuing zero-tolerance legal action to create a safe and trustworthy environment for all players.

Responding to In-Game Bug Exploits

In addition to combating cheats, PUBG takes firm action against players who exploit in-game bugs to gain unfair advantages or disrupt others’ gameplay. For example, this includes cases where players intentionally pass through certain terrain to win without directly engaging in combat. Such behavior undermines fair competition and damages the experience of others, making it a clear violation of PUBG’s Rules of Conduct.

We are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the causes of these issues. While enforcing penalties against players who have exploited bugs, we are also modifying game data and improving system structures to prevent similar exploits from recurring. Moreover, we are enhancing our testing and verification procedures to ensure that similar issues do not occur in other environments.

Going forward, PUBG will continue to take strict action against any behavior that undermines fairness or grants undue advantage. At the same time, we will enhance both operational and technical systems to ensure that all players can enjoy PUBG in a fair and stable environment.

Wrapping Up

In this Dev Letter, we shared updates on the ongoing anti-cheat improvements across multiple areas—including the enhancement of detection models, refinement of the reporting system, reduction of false bans, expansion of external legal actions, and prevention of in-game bug exploits.

These efforts go beyond simply detecting or banning cheats. They represent a systematic effort to build an environment where every player can play confidently and fairly.

Through the continuous advancement of our AI-based detection models and refinement of operational processes, our ability to detect and respond to cheats has become more precise than ever. The improvements to our report feedback and verification systems have also enhanced both the speed and accuracy in ways that players can truly feel. Furthermore, by building systems that reduce false bans and expanding legal measures against cheat-related activities, we’ve steadily improved both the credibility and scope of our anti-cheat efforts inside and outside the game.

Looking ahead, PUBG remains focused on building a sustainable anti-cheat ecosystem rather than chasing short-term results. We will continue to combine technological innovation with operational improvements to ensure that every player can enjoy fair, competitive, and enjoyable gameplay.
