Krafton announce exclusive PUBG version for India

KRAFTON, Inc., a collective of independent game development teams responsible for various entertainment properties, including PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG), has today made an official announcement presenting an exclusive version of their record-breaking mobile multiplayer game for India.  The project is aiming towards both eSports and casual gaming ecosystem being a free mobile game at the same time.

BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA, a battle royale experience, will have a period of pre-registration before the launch. The game will be available to play only in India. KRAFTON will collaborate with partners to build an esports ecosystem while bringing in-game content regularly, starting with a series of India specific in-game events at launch, to be announced later.

With privacy and data security being a top priority, KRAFTON will be working with partners, to ensure data protection and security, at each stage. This will ensure privacy rights are respected, and all data collection and storage will be in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations in India and for players here.

The ban of the PUBG Mobile in India has been decided on the government level alongside other 117 mobile apps. The wildly popular game has been classified as “prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India” by India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

PUBG Mobile was a massive hit in India, scoring 116 million downloads as of 2019, and was closing in on 200 million before its ban. The mobile version of PUBG was a hit in itself worldwide, earning a staggering $1.5 billion as of late 2019. India boasted 21 percent of PUBG Mobile downloads, but China beat out India in total purchases.
